The Torah portion is taken from Deut 31:1–30. Moses is speaking his final words on his final day. This is the shortest Torah portion. Now is the time where the new leader Joshua would be commissioned. He encourages Joshua to be strong and courageous. Moses would sing a song calling heavens and earth to remind the Israelites the law. God, then gave Moses a glimpse of the time after his leadership. The Israelites would turn their hearts to other Gods and would be in dire straits. Moses was so confident that, “ For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death?”

The evil inclination would always lead the most blessed of all people away from the Lord and thus its very important to subject every imagination captive to the obedience of Christ.

“And it shall come to pass, when many evils and troubles are befallen them, that this song shall testify against them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed: for I know their imagination which they go about, even now, before I have brought them into the land which I sware.”

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”(2 Cor 10:5)

Vayelech means “Moses went”. He was strong in purpose to fufil the plan of God. Abraham was asked to “Go out” . Moses was going in the ways of his fathers. Before he left he had to instill the confidence and courage in Jehoshua.

May those words aid us to take the responsibility of leading His people into His purposes in our generation.

“And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”(deut 31:8)
